Los Angeles Consistory No. 26
History

The Los Angeles Consistory received its charter on October 20, 1908 and was constituted the 26th Consistory of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Southern Jurisdiction, United States of America, Prince Hall Affiliation.

The first Illustrious Commander-In-Chief was Benjamin Foster Warner and the first home of Los Angeles Consistory No. 26 was located at Scott’s Hall on 50th Street and Central Avenue in Los Angeles.

Commencing in 1908 through 2024, six-eight members have served as the Illustrious Commander-In-Chief of Los Angeles Past Commander-In-Chief is Joe Powell, Jr. from 1985.

Los Angeles Consistory No. 26 has been recognized for its continuous charity work by theState of California, the City of Los Angeles, the County of Los Angeles the NAACP and many other organizations.

Since 1978, this Consistory has annually sponsored Thanksgiving dinners and Community Christmas Festivals to assist the local communities with food, clothes and gifts.

In the mid 1970’s, a scholarship program was developed for worthy college students and is named after Gilbert W. Lindsay, who was the first African-American Councilman in Los Angeles. Some of our most prominent members include the following late Gentlemen: Councilman Gilbert W. Lindsay, Mayor Thomas Bradley, Judge Bernard Jefferson and Thomas H. Skinner. Current members include Retired California Superior Court Judge Billy Mills and California State Assembly Member Reginald Jones-Sawer, Sr.

In addition, several members have been given the rank of Sovereign Grand Inspector General: Benjamin F. Warner, Lillard G. Dadridge, Frank G. Allen, Henry Davis, Henry E. Washington, Paul E. Alexander, John Williams, William Hendrix and Donald R. Ware. Three members were Deputy’s of California: Benjamin F. Warner, Lillard G. Dandridge, and Frank G. Allen.

Los Angeles Consistory No. 26 is a subordinate Consistory of the Robert W. Brown Council of Deliberation under the leadership of the Deputy for the Orient of California, Most Illustrious SGIG Billy G. Harrington, 33°.

Currently under the leadership of Illustrious Commander-In-Chief, GIG Stephen Rice, 33°, Los Angeles Consistory No. 26, after 116 years, continues building upon the principles and lessons of Freemasonry as well as providing service to the surrounding Community.
